Planning ahead and doing research etc for a build in May.

My current build is looking like a P2 940 and an HD 4870. I also plan on overclocking the P2 a bit.

Than in mind, is a 500W Antec Earthwatts PSU (which I already have) going to be enough?

I'll have 4 drives (1 SSD, 1 HDD, 1 blueray and 1 dvd burner) and 3 or so case fans. I plugged it all in to this PSU estimator and at max load it comes out to something like 480W.

Even if this was dead on accurate, which it obviously isnt, 20W doesnt seem like a whole lot of headroom.

Anyone have experience with a similar set up or estimates on whether it would work?
Or should I sell the Antec and get a bigger one?

Its certainly borderline but those calcs usually assume a generic PSU hence a good brand like Antec would be ok. Stick with it for now as long as it isnt 10 years old

Lets see if this link works.
You can filter newegg reviews by, for example "4870" and you get the posts by the kind people putting their specs in.

It should be enough. I'm running 4870 with i7 OC @ 3.40GZ 2 x HDD 2xOD 4 case fans, and have no problems on 500W PSU.

That calculator doesn't give power consumption, it gives recommended PSU size.
