I have a Thermaltake W0100RU power supply and recently purchased a 9800GTX+ for the system. I read in another thread after buying the card that the system might crash if i played any heavy games. The computer that the card is going in will only be displaying powerpoint presentations and running a software package called Song Show Plus (SongShowPlus.com/requirements) which is basically animation and video heavy (although we do not use a whole lot of animation).

Anyone think I could get away with using this card and PSU for a while until I can get a good deal on a replacement PSU? What if I underclocked the card, would that make a difference? Any help would be great, and yes I understand that I need a new PSU to get the most out of the card.

System as follows:

ASUS M3A AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU 500W ATX 12V 2.0 Power Supply
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Black Edition Processor Model ADO5000DSWOF
OCZ Gold 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2G8004GK
Rosewill RCX-Z5 92mm Two Ball Bearing / FDBB CPU Cooler
WD 80GB 7200 RPM IDE hard drive
Soon to be XFX 9800 GTX+
