Ok I don't get it, I can't even max this game at any resolutions. I tried it @ 1920x1080, 1680x1050, 1280x1024. The game doesn't let me put everything max because my card doesn't have enough memory...What card does then? the 4850 2 gig????
Any1 else having problems with this game??? or is it just me:S?????!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Thanks
P.S
I'm using drivers 180.70 my avg frames were 30, but when i play I get 15.9 or so frames per sec:S something is definately not right
Been reading around on this, its a software issue, not hardware. The game looks like crap on the PS3/360. They probably loaded it up with a bunch of Maybellene textures which is doing nothing but hogging resources for no reason.
I heard it doesn't even support multiple gpus at the moment. So that's at least one part of the problem. The memory issue is just a load of BS, they probably just have that as some generic error message to cover up the fact they can't get the max settings to work properly period.

the game loads too many textures that it doesnt need. i have it on ps3 and whenever im driving around the HDD light is always on. it's a poorly designed game overall.

mmm... i cant play it with CF HD 4830 or 1 GB 4870 or 9800 GX2, my brothers HD 4870 x2 either at any resolution the strange thing its my 9800 GSO actually plays it a lot better than any other of our GPUs at the lowest resolutions maybe its just a terrible port...
Rockstar games haven't been known for performing well on pc. San andreas looked like crap, didn't even reach 60fps, and crashed frequently when other games at the time ran great. So this doesn't surprise me one bit.

GTA 4 is horrible Optimized game, its a fun game but was not made for PC i play it maxed out Every thing High 1680x1050 View Dis at 50% i get a average of 35 fps not bad but there is really nothing to this game it dose not play like it should i can tell you that much....
I give GTA 4 for the PC a Epic Fail the Patch did nothing by the time they release another patch every 1 will be done playing it, Just go get Saints Row 2...
i just dont see how people with PCs that are way better then the Xbox can not even play this game lol on my old PC i could play Crysis on high but could barley play GTA 4 and the game has no texture to it its just a little step up from GTA 3
it dose use alot of CPU but like i said its not like it has Amazing Graphics and should take a Top of the line PC to play it its just Pure B.S.
Take San Andreas Retexture it and you have a Better GTA 4 that will most likely play 100% better

You can try reducing draw distance and shadow quality while having fairly high texture settings. No doubt it loads too much for any given radius. Graphics aren't that good IMO - shadows are totally buggered as well (density of dots shadows).
whats weird is how high it was rated on review sites though. The other thing is, anyone tried bully? The torrent version I have (which isohunt comments say is geniuine and perfect) makes my computer stuck at every loading screen adn the textures show up late as the level already loaded stuff starts appearing. There is hardly any customization in the video options as well. I would buy the legit copy if I knew it would work for sure.
