Ever notice how your nice fan profile for your VGA card quits working right after you update your driver, leaving you to hunt for another solution?
How many posts have you seen asking "how do I adjust my fan speed?"

Next time I get a rig set up, I am going to manually control my CPU and GPU fans. I guess all you would need to do is plug them into a 12v constant fan plug.

Something like this;

Does anybody know if it would cause any problems NOT having the CPU fan plugged into the CPU fan socket? Or NOT using the factory power for the GPU fan?
It would defeat the purpose of manual fan control if you used the regular connections. Not automatic, I know, but I'd love to be able to just turn a couple of good old analogue dials, and hear those fans speed up.

Bad idea for any reason?

When updating my graphics cards drivers for a gtx 260, i had to update the precision utility to still be able to control the fans on the graphics cards.
