Topic says it all. I've got a Gigabyte DS3 motherboard, which is great. But I'm thinking of picking up a used 8800GT for less than $100 and doing some SLI. Only problem is I don't have an SLI mobo. I hear bad things about the 780i chipset from Nvidia. Is it all overblown? I'll be running Vista 32bit, maybe 64bit in the future.

What are suggestions for an SLI motherboard? Would it be a better idea to just get a beefier gfx card, like one of those x2 ones? That's probably more expensive though.

Currently I'm running a 3ghz core 2 duo (E8300) on air with a Corsair 520 watt PSU.

Thoughts?

My recommendations are only X58 for SLI.

I'm also not sure your 520HX will cover two 8800GTs

A single 4870 1GB is pretty cheap right now, and comes in around the same performance as crossfired 8800GT I think.

So, spend $200 bucks on a MB upgrade and second card, and another $100 on a PSU... or spend $200 for a 4870 1Gb or GTX 260.

Supposedly the 520hx is good for SLI...

I was not able to find any direct comparisons for a 4870 1GB vs. SLIed 8800GT's. What is your source?

Thanks for the advice!
