Hi guys, lately with the new content patches in World of Warcraft my FPS and overall performance has decreased noticeably, in typical 25 man raid settings in mid-combat I've grown to tolerate constant sub-10 FPS and frequent screen freezes. My current AMD system is a solid 2.5 years out of date (939 socket),

MB: DFI NF4 SLI Series Socket 939, typical 2,000 MHz hyper transport FSB
CPU: Opteron 148, single core 11x200 MHz (2.2 GHz) single-core
Hard drive: Standard WDC 5200 RPM 80 GB drive
Ram: 2 GB DDR PC400 2.5-3-3-6
PSU: Antec 550W, two 12v rails rated at 19 amps each, 36 amps combined total
Video Card: Geforce 8800GTX 600 MHz clock 900 MHz (x2) memory 768 MB

I want to be able to run WotLK smoothly and at the same time make a wise investment. Right now my 8800 GTX is actually performing worse than a friend's 8800 GTS card I've tried recently, and think this might be attributed to the fact I am running a relatively slow single-core processor with a borderline PUS, in terms of wattage. The two general builds I'm considering are,

1) Upgrade to a dual-core 2.2 GHz Socket 939 AMD processor, pick up a nice 750W Corsair to ensure the card (and future cards) are not power starved, and grab 2 more GB of ram for good measure

or

2) Rebuild most the system w/ a quad-core Intel Q6600, grab a LGA 775 socket motherboard, 4GB of DDR2 800, still pick up the 750W Corsair PSU, and go for a 15000 RPM hard drive.

Which build option would the computer enthusiasts here advise? I want to be able to run WotLK smoothly in raid environments. Option #1 is much cheaper (probably totaling around $300), and is nice in the sense I wouldn't be putting hundred of dollars into LGA 775 boards that will soon be replaced and can invest later in the next generation of boards next year, but at the same time how much would this really help now? Option #2 is of course much more expensive (probably totaling around $600-700) and would entail investing in a soon to be out of date technology, but I would suspect have much less issues running WotLK.

Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.

WoW is very cpu reliant, your graphics cards are fine for the game. Your best bet is a new CPU, a 2.2ghz dual core is pretty slow, you wont get full preformance from those graphics cards with WoW with anything less then a 3ghz cpu. I am not upto date on AMD Cpu's so i cant recommend anything, but if you wanted to you could grab a intel e8400 and a 750i board for about 300 total. Of course then youd want some new ddr2800 , which is extremely cheap another 60(after rebates) for 4gigs. You can keep your harddrive or update, but 15k rpm is not necessary. Im sure any cheap harddrive is faster :) 7200rpm.

SLI isnt the best preforming thing neither is CF in WoW, but e8400 + and 8800sli is 40+ fps during sunwell raids and is about 125 in citys.(not shatt)

$49.99 after MIR!!! This is a great price for a quality PSU!

Recycle your GPU for the time being, WoW isn't very graphics intensive.

I think i made a mistake thinking he had 2 8800 with the way he said x2. Yeah you can get a cheaper board then a 750i or something then. The one slomo linked is decent.
