When I press the power button, my LEDs turn on for about ½ a second, then it turns back off. After that the power button doesn't work before removing power.
If I take out my graphics card, it stays turned on, and gives me 1 long beep and 3 short - which means that there's just no graphics card? Does this mean my graphics card is defective, since it just turns off if it's plugged in?
if there are additional power connectors on card (pci power) - you need to connect them
maybe your PSU has not enough power for this card
i had the same troubles with GTX260 - it has 2 additional pci power connectors
without them (or with weak PSU) it doesn't work
There is an extra 6-pin connector on the card, and it has always been connected. The computer is 2 years old I think, and the PSU is only about 5 months.. I haven't had any problems before
So you can boot into windows using your motherboards onboard graphics?
If thats the case then either your PSU has degraded, or your card has took a power surge or overheated or took some ESD or similar nasty event. Try testing the GPU in a friends machine, making sure they can power it, and have the correct mobo slot.

i have the exact problem. been having it for almost a year already. all i do is keep trying to turn it on by closing it from the back and then turning it on again.
I'm not sure that it is a Graphics Card. It might have something to do with the temperature though. I had the same problem yesterday and I resolved it following these directions:
