nice job although its to late i would of changed some stuff but its personal preference and it wont really make a diffrences now

you should of went with an ASUS mobo instead of gigabyte but as i said it wont make a difference

and im not sure if you already had some more RAM sticks but you could of gotten 4gb (2x 2gb) for the same price of the 2gigs u got

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820231122

but as i said personal preference

I was going to go with that 4gb (2x 2gb) setup but it only runs at DDR2 800 and the OCZ runs at DDR2 1150 to better match the FSB of the gigabyte mb.

Buy two more GB of RAM.

Can you still cancel the MB? You paid $215 for a P45 motherboard, which will work badly in Crossfire with HD 4870 1GB cards. For that money you could have had a GA-X48-DS4 or a P5E Deluxe X48, both of which work better in that scenario. This article shows the difference with HD 4850 512MB cards. With HD 4870 1GB it hurts more.

A combo like (P5Q Pro + HD 4870 X2, no AS5, no aftermarket CPU cooler) would cost $80 more than yours. Would you care to guess which one does better in games? I can't believe nobody told you that in two weeks. :(

Edit: sorry to ruin your fun, man. It will be a great gaming box, no worries. I'm just annoyed that we missed something so obvious...

No I cant cancel the order was sent out today. I forgot to post that I have 2 of the OCZ Reaper HPC 2GB coming not just 1. Someone did suggest the the other MB's on this site but I thought because of the increased speed for the fsb it would be better in the long run.
If I dont crossfire will this still work badly as eavm put it?
So what is your suggestion to go with the p5q pro and eventually get another 4870 1gb in the future?

Don't worry. It will work very well. If you don't Crossfire it will work very nicely.

Even if you do add a second card, it will still be fine, just not quite as good as an X48 would have been with the same cards.

The P5Q Pro would behave just like the GA-EP45-DQ6 (both are based on P45).

Tell you what. Don't worry about Crossfire. If the HD 4870 is not enough for you in 2010, you will be able to sell it and buy something a lot faster that will work fine in your MB. You don't have to do Crossfire to upgrade the video. In fact, I'm pretty sure there will be $300 cards two years from now which will beat the HD 4870 1 GB Crossfire by a lot. The HD 4870 X2 will become cheaper too.

Many serious overclockers prefer a crossfire P45 board to an x38 or x48, because they feel they can get more FPS out of the OC than the PCI-E bandwidth.

Of course, if you were serious about overclocking you would not get RAM rated for such a high voltage or populate all 4 slots with 1Gb sticks.

As aevm says, you'll be quite happy with this build. We just wish we had seen it before hand. Can't get to every thread, sadly... although I get to most of them ;)

That was why I just said "very nice." and left it at that, but since the can of worms got opened... don't sweat it, we'll pick apart our own builds if you bring them back a week later and pretend they are yours.

LOL, true that.

I really didn't mean to make the OP unhappy. After all, his system is way ahead of mine (Q6600/8800GTX) even though I paid a lot more than him.

In general I let it go too when somebody has already ordered and it's too late to make changes. I only mentioned the possible improvements because I know Amazon lets you cancel orders if they haven't shipped yet. OK, I never bought electronics from amazon, but I do buy tons of books and DVDs and I change my orders all the time.
