I can't boot from my new WD 1TB SATA3 drive. I've formatted it to basic and restored the image from the old (small & slow) drive. I can read the files but the thing will not boot using my old Asus A8-SLI Premium mobo. I followed the same steps as I did last week using a borrowed SATA2 version of this drive and it worked correctly.
Since then, I've flashed the mobo with the latest bios and set the SATA3 drive to the slower SATA2 by connection a jumper (5&6) on the drive. I've run the simple and extended test on the drive using WD WinDLG application and it passes all tests. And yes, the CMOS is set to recognize the drive.
What did you use to copy the data from the old drive? A simple file copy or file backup and restore won't work because it won't copy the boot information. You'd have to use some sort of imaging program.
