When I scan my computer it says using 84% of one CPU. What does that mean?

The answer to the question in the subject line is (almost always) one, although nowadays they tend to have two or more cores.

As to the question in the body of your message - what do you mean by "When I scan my computer"? Scan it with what?

Ah. I'm not really familiar with Norton. I didn't realise that antivirus products reported CPU usage. I presume that's the CPU used by the program whilst scanning; it can be a fairly resource-intensive process. Unless you're having problems I wouldn't worry about it.
