well earlier today my power supply decided to die on me and took my mother board with it and becaus my computer was an hp that I transferd to a better case I need to get a new OS to replace the mother board. My hdd, 8600gts and cpu are still computable but i was wondering what you guys think of this hardware.

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813130182
Power supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817139002
Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820145194
CPU Cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6835185125
OS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6832116488

For still good hardware i have

the CPU is a amd anthalon 64x2 with an am2 socet
For a video card i have a 8600gts.
and a 250gb sata hard drive.

Do you think this build is good

Edit: I almost forgot to say that my budget is no more then $500 and id prefer $400.

I think if I were you personally, I'd back off on some of that stuff and grab a better video card. Maybe a 4850 or even a 4830. If you are strapped for cash, I'm guessing even a 4670 would do better than the 8600.

Or if you prefer nvidia, check this card out.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814121255

It's a 9600 gso, formerly known as the 8800gs, basically from what I understand they were like a cut down version of the 8800gt. That particular one however is 80, but a rebate will bring the price to 50 bucks.

How about this vs the PSU you were looking at?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817371015

Quality may not be quite as good, but Antec is still good stuff, 2 12v+ rails at 22 amps each sounds good to me.

Do you plan to overclock? If not, use the stock cooler off your old system and save 26 bucks. So there is about 70 in savings for you.

Consider saving 20 bucks more and grab a biostar board here...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813138134

I don't know exactly why the one review the guy had problems. I've used a few biostars myself, and have always been pretty happy with them.

Save yourself some more...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813138134

Gskill ram, same speed even same timings listed as the corsair ram you picked out, but lower voltages. And 20 bucks cheaper.

Or they've got this PNY memory for 59.99 with the same timings as that corsair you looked at

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820178222

Either way, a lot of other kits that look to offer similar performance to the corsair for less money.

So far we may have saved you 90 bucks. So then, if you don't move the budget at all, you've got enough left over to grab that 9600 gso, or to grab a 4670. If you put a little more cash with it, say 40 bucks, you could even be grabbing a 4830 or 9800gt which would blow your 8600gts out of the water. Personally I would go a route like that. The 8600gts is ok, but for just the money you can save here, you would be able to have a nicer card if gaming is what you are after, then ebay the 8600 and maybe buy yourself a nice new game with the profit from that.

Yep, that covered it.

Only thing is, if you re-use the stock cooler you will likely need to clean of the old thermal material and apply new paste... once you do that the Arctic Freezer starts looking better, as it comes with decent TIM pre-applied and is an improvement over the stock AMD cooler, last I heard... I'm a bit rusty on AMD though.

sry about the tripple post but what would you think if i changed things around and when with a ddr3 mobo.

Mother Board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813131344

Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820145198

this build would only cost 50$ more and with the ddr3 it would be better for future expandability.

Reply to dragoon48

No on both coolers. Here is the one you want:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6835233003
and
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6835233019

That Centurion case just doesn't have a lot of air flow, and replacing fans won't really fix that... but as long as you aren't running a hotter video card it will probably be adequate.

The Intel build would certainly be better, but you would still be fairly limited until you upgraded that video card.

thanks ill go with that cooler but im still wondering what do you think of the mobos should i choose the ddr3 or ddr2? plus do you think i should change my case to a: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6811129042

Sorry I thought I linked my guide earlier:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/ [...] rts-choose

In there you'll find out why not to use DDR3. ;)

Yes an Antec 300 is a better case.
