The NVidia build only has the parts to build the computer and it about 20 dollars more.
It doesnt include a keyboard-monitor-speakers-and mouse like the ATI Build
heres the nvidia build(with ddr3 and 1000w PSU)
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/ [...] r=13534867
and heres the ATI
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/ [...] er=7346934
accessories can always easily be upgraded/added(monitor-keyboard-mouse) While the parts in the system arent somtin you just go update every now and then
I would go for the ATI build, since that is very similar to what i have now
Well that's alot of power you're packing,I've tried a 4870 and a gtx280 and now
'm using just a single 4870x2. and It's packing more than enough for me. and I'm using a 57" 1080p HDTV for my gaming.
Personally I was an nvidia fan, till the new 4xxx series came out, and I bought the 4870 .. loved it so much I bought another 4870x2 soon as it came out, Now my 4870 is just sitting here. I'm on DDR2 so I'm not sure if DDR3 would make a difference between the 2 ati vs nvidia. but I personally would just go with ati... for the DDR5 advantage that I've noticed using my giant screen. and Don't let the bad feedbacks of the new 4 series fool you. the GTX2 series are just as loud and just as hot, my gtx280 actually ran hotter than my hd4870
It all comes down to you. the gtx280 vs 4870, why did I go 4870? at the time my gtx280 was still selling for 600 bucks, so I sold it and to be honest, and "most" games I dont see much of a difference, we're not talking major fps decrease. So I was impressed by the 300 dollar video card (HD4870) and it's packing enough power for me.
I personally like your ATI build better, but with the 800mhz not the 1066 mhz, 1066mhz is actually just overclocked version of 800.
I'd change the tower how ever, that's just me, I'm more into quality feel and quiet sound with great cooling.
I'd change the mouse to a G7 or G9 logitech, I have that mouse but atm somethings wrong with it, I have to unplug and plug it back in during game play, annoys me ! G7 feels great, does not fee like a wireless at all. Accurate.. extremely accurate. G9 just because its new
well good luck to yah..
oh btw.
the new intel i7 will be coming out next week or so, So you should hold off till then, Prices should lower down.
Since i7 will be the new intels. for future proof ddr3 is better, but not really. The new i7 will be only working on x58 motherboards and up.
which is ddr3 ram also. different sockets as well, so everything you buy now will have to go poof, when you want to go upgrade to an i7
yea ill get the ATI =]
so i wont have to wait to buy accessories months after i build my computer ill already have it
ATI. Crossfire 4870 probably costs less than a single GTX280 (it does in my country).
The ATI build.

i would go with the Logitech G5 or the MX518, those are two very great mouses at a way better price. i'm not sure how you would feel about spending roughly 75$ on a G7. but then again, if you need wireless that much, then G7, if not, a MX518/G5 will suffice. TRUST ME, do NOT get the G9, it is a horrible mouse. i've had experience with it, and it sux to game w/that mouse. do yourself a favor.
i've got the G5 myself, never went back to anything else or any other brand.
Ive havnt had the chance to try a G9 so I'll agree with Aznguy0028. How ever G7 just spoiled me, I've owned mx518 and G5s and the mx300/330 before. And G7 Was just great, you can find them on ebay for about 49.99 which isn't bad. The battery swaps get annoying, but it becomes a habbit. but Yeah go with Logitech G series , Not razor Been there done that, and I'm not impressed at all.
they were great at one point, few years back when they were the first to come out with a 800dps, but now everyone makes 2k dps so..
I say logitech G5 as he suggested or G7 if you like the wire free feeling and swining your mouse all over the place on fps games.
OH if you want future proof.
I'd get a cheap DDR3 support mobo
With DDR3 ram
Cheap Intel yorkie
and a ATI video card
with a 1k watt psu
then in few months IF you really want the new Inte i7's , which are supposed to be 40% faster than our current cpu
You can just swap everything over except motherboard.
i7 will be on x58 socket motherboards (DDR3 ram) and highly doubt any venders will make a DDR2 motherboard for it.
i7s are slightly larger than our current LG775 sockets, so it wont fit on our current motherboards.
if he's going to spend that much cash, I would go with the Core i7. For the price of the Q9550 and the 790i board he can have a i7 920 and a X58 and not change the other components. The 920 is clocked at 2.66 ghz and is 1 of the first 3 prcessors due out in 1 week along with the X58 motherboards from Asus, Gigabyte, Intel, MSI, and a few others.
True, which is why I said I'd wait for a week or two, for the new i7 and x58 to be released, Actually MSI And Foxconn will be the first, then following other venders 2 weeks after. Most sites will have them on backorder
the price increase due to switching to ddr3, x58 and i7 is definitely NOT worth the money you'd spend on a q9xxx + ddr2 + p45/x48. The performance increase in games is just too small to justify hundreds of dollars.
maybe in 6 months.
Well for some people the switch to i7 is worth it, if they already have all of that or was planning on spending that much in the first place. such as 1800, BUT One thing i would like to mention is i7 is new. Meaning head aches. Things going wrong. and while you spend so much for something that is supposed to be so great, you'll be left with head aches and no answers since they still havn't figured out how to fix certain things. I only suggested the ddr3 + mobo and stuff, incase he might want to consider going that path. I personally re-built mine on ddr2 ( i still dont see ddr3 worth the price or performance) I personally go for P45 than x48s , and I'm more into Single dual cards than crossfire, I'm sure some of you who owned crossfire or sli would agree, dual card solution becomes a head ache at times.
But I agree with everyones opinion, we're all just throwing out our opinions and suggestions. it's all up to the buyer which path he wants to take.
Looking at your Nvidia option, do you really need a monitor, mouse and speakers right now?
I might hold off on those upgrades to get the fastest main hardware (cpu, videocard etc) then save up more money and get the monitor, mouse and speakers later.
I would also wait a little while to see where the prices go with i7 coming out. You might want to get an i7 or maybe by then you could get a 9650 for the price of a 9550 now.
| Quote : maybe by then you could get a 9650 for the price of a 9550 now. |
doubtful. Q9650 is the fastest non extreme chip there is. Q9550 is getting killed and replaced with Q9500 i believe. Prices will be similar, esp. with the budget, mainstream and enthusiasts brackets filled so well with dual and quad options.
Why do people keep harping on the performance increase in games isn't that significant when it's been shown that the hendering factor for games is the gpus'. A few sites including this already showed that. It wasn't the cpu's that were the problem, it was the graphics cards that were the problem. Funny thing is, the 920 was keeping up and exceeding the QX9770 at times. Heck there is a game coming out next week that makes full use of a quad core in which the demo of that game is out now. Lost 4 Dead. The only differences between Penryn and Nehalem is that Nehalem is a quad mono die setup, has a built in imc and a few other tweeks and improved instruction set, and when set up right, nothing keeps up with it. You guys are always spouting about future proof, well guess what, it's coming out next week and it already runs on vista quite well. But this is just my opinion.
Get the nVidia build
Well, my first question is do you actually intend to have a multi-GPU setup at some point? If not, avoid the nvidia chipset like the plauge, thats all its useful for, less OC headroom, more reported issues, and lots of $$. And even if the answer is yes, for multi-card setups, ATi FTW right now.

I'd go with your AMD build, but instead of adding on that keyboard and mouse I think you should get the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 instead of the Q6600
Okay guys ill wait =] i waited about a whole year to save up this money year and a half(im only 13) I worked mowning lawns and putting some in the bank and saving and im alost 14 old enough to get a real job! no one cares but yea..lol
i heard there will be a x58 rampage formula i will DEFINLTLY be getting that. I might just order the case rite now though since i know im not changing that. I wont order the video card cuz a new one can come out in a week without notice! the 4850 x2, 5870 =p Ill order the OS also
if you wait a bit, you might be able to get more out of your money with the christmas deals. Something worth considering, especially if you already waited a year and a half for your new computer. What's an extra week or two?
hehe yea but it was hard! i never thought i would EVER have this much money.

lol nice one =p if i know how to sign that i would put
"Time to impress the ladies with your bling"
"Get a core i7 CPU and put it on a gold chain!"
Go with the 1gb GDDR5 4870
