I'm assuming this is a budget build, as notably more powerful GPUs and CPUs are available. On a tight budget though, there's nothing wrong with your choices. You've also not skimped on the PSU, which is very good.
The only think I personally don't like in it is the RAM. For the least possible grief, get DDR2-800 that will run at its advertised timings on the JEDEC standard 1.8V. A-Data and Mushkin make good RAM that qualifies.
On a budget, a cheaper case makes a lot more sense to me, especially if it frees up money for a faster GPU or CPU, or more RAM. Look at CoolerMaster or even Rosewill cases. Even their low to mid range offerings have decent cooling and plenty of space.

LOL, why would you want feedback even from the clueless?

I had to check the date of the post to make sure it's recent. Man, what's up with the HD 3870 and the WD5000AAKS? Those are old technologies. Get a HD 4850 and a WD6400AAKS instead.

Get this kit of 4GB Mushkin DDR2-800 for a few bucks more than the 2GB on your list:

Nice MB, but for the same price you can have a P5Q Pro and get more SATA ports and Crossfire ability.

Or get the GA-EP45-UD3P for a few bucks more, again for the Crossfire ability. It's the best future-proofing you can do these days.

The case/PSU combo is nice, good value for $170. However, $183 gets you a NZXT Tempest (6 big fans!) and a PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750W these days at Newegg, and that's a better deal.

Edit: speaking of future-proofing... Your friend should save a couple hundred bucks more and a year from now add a Q9550 or at least an E8500, and the second video card. They will all be cheaper by then - probably $300 together.

What's it for? If it's for gaming see if you can stretch the budget to include a 4850. I would go for memory that uses the standard 1.8V.

thx for the responses. I will check out your suggestions and post a revised build later. This is a budget build targeting 550$. 600$ is a stretch. Just going for an all purpose system with some light gaming potential. Will be running XP32bit OS so 3gig is max recognized mem(i think). I will be attempting to get the most i can out of the cpu by overclocking which is the main reason I want a solid power supply.
