Blank CD/DVD not detected

Hello everyone!
I have a very unique problem & i couldn't gather its solution from anywhere. So, I have joined this community with much hope.
My DVD Writer is of LG. Any audio & video cd/dvd runs properly but it is unable to detect / read any new blank cd/dvd. So, I am not being able to write cd/dvd. PLEASE HELP........

A shot in the dark - do you have the free lightscribe software from the lightscribe website? When I installed it on my computer it broke my DVD drive in similar ways to what you describe, and uninstalling it fixed my problems.

Do you have more than one optical drive? Sometimes windows XP (what I have experience with) will only allow one to be set as the 'burning' drive at a time.
