Christmas is coming up. My friend already has a 4870 X2, I didn't see many reviews, but I needed opinions. Should I get my friends an extra 4870? Or is it just not worth it?

He plays @ 1920x1200, with q6600, 4 gigs of ram, not sure his mobo. PSU 850 watt. :ouch:

Definitely not worth it, the performance increase declines rapidly after the first two in crossfire. He may see a few more fps, but the 4870 x2 should be giving him some pretty high results as is. Perhaps get him some more ram and a sound card?

LOL!

You'd need to be a 20 year friend lol:p thats how long I've known him.

I just thought this card would push his system just enough for him to be able to play Crysis wars well, though Ati prob won't satisfy his needs.

I just thought of something what about a 32 gig or 64 gig SSD hard drive?

I don't think you'll find an ssd worth buying in the 250 buck range and yeah if his cpu isn't oced he is already bottlenecked. Does he have a blu ray rom drive or highend keyboard/mouse? A second monitor is always nice to have as well.

ew... second monitor? I could see how it *might* be useful... but i don't like the idea at all

SSD drives in the 200 $ range aren't good, unless you get like 2 or 3 really cheap ones (you can get some under a 100 dollars at tigerdirect, 64 gb too) and then raid 0 them

scaling in crysis is already awful so adding a third 4870 wouldn't help

If you really wanna be a friend, give him a steam gift certificate or something

theres only so much you can do with a computer before you wanna do what it was designed for... GAMES!!!!

+1

Games aren't a bad idea, or an SSD drive, maybe a processor upgrade (Q9550)

ATI won't fit his needs? Well I'm wondering what would then since you really can't get any better than a 4870X2.

Sorry I couldn't help it, I re-read it and just had to quote it again.

Anyways You might just want to buy him some games, hardware wise you are already pretty much in the area where you would need to spend quite a bit to get very little if any gains at all...

Like what Thogrom was saying, I hear Left 4 Dead is just the bees knees!

yeah, but he's always wanted 1 and it does decrease some latency. Ofc not enough to justify the cost, but thats his prob. I kep the receipt incase he wants an exchange.:)

from some reviews I've seen though it does take some pressure off the CPU:)

A $5 NIC card will do that Liquid, because youre not using the intergrated. A sound card will do the same thing over intergrated.

I mean its your money, $120-$210. I think a BRD drive and maybe a 1TB drive would have been a better value.

he already has enough HD space:p BD the cheapest good drive is around 235$ here + tax.

I paid 125+ tax for the K1ller card.

The difference between a reg card and the K1ller is it has a CPU sub based on the card itself:) Its better than a 5$ card, just doesn't justify the cost:)
