hi, i'm new on the forum.
i've recently built a new computer, but honestly, i i'm not really impressed. maybe my expectations were to big. i'd like to know how can i test performance and put the results here so you could tell me is my system performing as it should be.
this is my configuration:

MB Gygabite GA-P35-S3G
2GB DDR2 OCZ Platinum
GAINWARD HD4850 512MB
WD 640AAKS 640GB

right now i can post just results which i got with 3dmark 06 basic edition:

Your score looks fine to me. The P35 board is a bit limiting compared to a P45 based board though so you should keep that in mind. Are any games running particularly slow or something? Why does your system disappoint you?

Well, as i said, i don't exclude the possibility that i simply expected too much.
As for the games, i'll post exact results tomorrow, right now what i can say: pes2009, devil may cry 4, nba 2k9,ut3 everything max@1280-1024-60Fps; brothers in arms, fallout 3 max@1280-1024, mostly 60, but here and there it drops even to 35fps sometimes. Mostly, the biggest disappointments are crysis, crysis warhead and farcry 2; around 30 with max details 2xAA.

Have you even looked at the charts here? Crysis has trouble running on max settings with even a Radeon 4870X2 or GTX 280, much more so when you try enabling AA or AF. War head is based on the same engine, but is a little more efficient, even though it seems most of the speed up is in the high settings area. Run those games on high instead of very high and I'm sure you'll be happy. If you want more performance you have to pay for it.

Keep in mind Crysis beats on ANY system. And Far Cry 2 is kind of the latest and greatest game, so it's going to stress most systems a little bit too.

I forget what my CPU rates with 3dMark06 for the CPU score, but my initial reaction was that perhaps 2900 marks is kinda low for an E8500? I use a Quad Core though, and I'm not sure if 3dMark06 actually takes advantage of all four cores or not...

Crysis warhead render engine is not the same one as Crysis.
It is a new coding of the Crysis engine.
They should give us the same one for our copies of Crysis.
A back port.

you worried me now saying that my cpu score is low.
could you please tell me how to test my cpu to ensure it's not faulty?
i've done wprime 32M test with it, and it was finished in about 26 seconds.
