I've been runngin the following system for a bit of time now:

Asus M2A-VM/HDMI Mobo
ITE IDE card
2x1GB Matched Corsair XMS2 DXH DDR2 800mhz
2x Maxtor DiamondMax 21 320gb IDE hdd's
1x LG IDE DVD-RW drive
Recently put in an AMD ATHLON X2 64 5400+@2.8ghz
Sapphire Radeon HD3850 256Mb GDDR3
PSU Corsair 650TX with 52A on +12v Rail

Is this psu actually ok for my current build? ive been gettin the odd vpu reset with or without ati catalyst suite installed across a few different driver versions, i just dont want it turning out like the 3850 i had rma'd because its vpu would reset in every game no matter what game i played be it old or new, the desktop would have wierd colours to it it would never show in a print screen screenshot as ive tried taking one then rebooting and looking at it, not artifacts as such but more like the colour depth had gone mental, the same colour depth thing happens on this current build but the vpu resets dont happen all the time like with the other card, just really strange.... thoughts at all?

You could run that even with 27A on the 12v Rail.
It's definitely not the PSU unless it's faulty, which should have had some more visible effects.

That PSU has PLENTY of power to spare.
This does not mean the PSU is not bad.

You may also may want to make sure you have a UPS that provides "conditioned" power. This makes sure that the power from the wall is cleaned up and sent to your computer w/o spikes or drops.

Dirty Street Power can cause this too.
Not common, but can happen.

its not good theory.

oh just to add, the rma'd card i used to have was a 3850 too, i replaced the motherboard, followed by the ram to prove to the crappy retailer the card was faulty, ive just swapped cpu, i had a 500+ now i have the cpu mentioned above, the only things ive kept across the system have been my 2 ide hdd's and my xblade case, could this be an airflow issue? i know i use rivatuner to ramp up the speed of my gcards fan but thats only cooling the cpu, the ram is covered by the heatsink too but the mind boggles with this... from what i can tell here im using mainly performance parts with a bit of bang for buck thrown in

"my gcards fan but thats only cooling the cpu" should say "my gcards fan but thats only cooling the gpu" lol and 500+ should say 5000+

might aswell keep this up to date... the tech guy from ccl has lent me his 8800GTS while he takes a look at my card himself on his own time, correct me if im wrong guys but thats damn good customer service, apparently ccl have had a machine with 5 HD3850x2's go bad in it one after the other, so i guess i could just be unlucky here and have a faulty card, at least thats the theory, personally, if winamps audio doesnt stop or start looping when my vpu gets reset for no reason at all, then its pretty much so isolated to the video card, power supply checks as running really really well, its not even 3 months old yet... i dunno what theyre gonna replace it with, they dont sell hd3850's with the 256mb of ram by sapphire on there site anymore LOL
