These are the parts I plan to use for my next build. If you feel any of my part choices are bad, that I need another part to make this computer work, that I could get a better deal on parts elseware, or that any of the parts are not compatible with another, please respond.
I'm not convinced the Cosmos is a good choice for twin 4850s, because the dump the heat back into the case. The better airflow of the Antec 1200 would make me feel safer, if it was my build.
You should also get a SATA DVD burner instead of IDE. There is no reason to put a big IDE cable in a new build. I recently got this drive and really like it:
I will definitely change my disc drive. As for the hard drive, do you really think the 640gb caviar is faster than a 500gb samsung spinpoint? I always thought the spinpoint was fairly fast, but maybe my knowledge is outdated. I do not want a P45 motherboard because it will not allow for x16 bandwidth for two graphics cards in crossfire. Thanks for the replies, keep the advice coming!
Is the DFI LANPARTY
DK X38-T2RB ATX Intel Motherboard a good motherboard? If not, are their any other motherboards that allow two ati graphics cards in crossfire with x16 bandwidth?
The x48 boards are usually considered the better overclockers.
The DFI would be more your budget choice.
The ASUS Rampage Formula would be the more common choice for overclocking... but DFI has a certain overclocking rep. Not good for beginners though, not a newbie friendly BIOS.
Oh, I should note that many serious overclockers prefer the P45 boards, even for crossfire. It's said that the improved ability to OC over the x48 makes up for the loss of crossfire bandwidth.
