Recommended Heat SInk and Fans for my PC

Hello All,

Currently running a AMD Phenom II x 3 720 BE with stock fans in cm 690 Case with a;

SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100283VXL Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

I am looking to start some overclocking and unlocking the 4th core.

I was hoping to get some cooling suggestions such as what heat sink to get and what about fans for the case, are the stock ones good enough or should I look into replacing and or adding more?

The heat sink I am looking at is the COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

More about recommended heat sink fans
  1. Here is a link to a recent Tom's Hardware article with useful information about 10 popular cpu heatsinks:,2535.html

    I know the article states Intel LGA 1156 heatsinks but just about all of them are also compatible with Intel LGA 1366 cpu's

    Here is a link to a very good web site with more useful information about cpu heatsinks that will help you make an informed decision:

    You can use the Google embedded search feature at the web site to find more information about heatsinks for specific cpu sockets.
  2. Stick fans are fine....provided the noise doesn't bother you. Antec has some fans with speed control and you can use a fan controller such as the NZXT Sentry 2.

    I'd recommend PWM fan(s) for the HS ....use the splitter if you are using two.
