CPU More Important In Lower Resolutions?

I currently have a 9800 GTX+ but I want to upgrade to one of the GTX 200 series. The thing is, my monitor is only 1400X900 resolution, and I read some things that said CPU is more important in rendering in low resolutions. So should I upgrade my CPU or GPU? My CPU is currently Core 2 Duo E8400.

correct me if i am wrong, but i herd that the gpu does most of the rendering and texturing, while cpu concentrates mainly on AI and things of that sort.

Put it this way. A faster cpu will up the minimum fps at lower res, so its good to have. Having a better gpu will put you in a totally different league. Say a 98 will give 20 fps min while a G260 may start out at 30, now add the faster cpu, and both will go up. Gte it?

Most games are demanding graphically, when you lower your res the GPU becomes less important, but as long as you CPU compliments your GPU and doesn't bottleneck you GPU you should upgrade your GPU. It matters most what games you play, if you can already get 50+ FPS then there shouldn't be any need to upgrade.

As a rule of thumb, once your cpu is at 3.0 or better, like the E8400, it will drive any single vga card nicely. Go ahead with the 200 series card. Realize though, that your 9800GTX+ is already a very good card so your improvement may be a bit disappointing unless you are looking at a good GTX280 or better.

Your 9800 GTX+ is fine for the resolution you use. I honestly doubt you would notice a difference at this time. If you plan on getting a new monitor and using a higher res anytime soon then the upgrade would be worth it.
