External hard drives.

Hello,
If I buy a new external hard drive can I copy movies and music to it with my desktop PC that has Windows XP pro then give to someone that has a Mac laptop or notebook? Will he be able to plug his USB into it and play the movies and music or will some conversion software be needed?

It will work just fine. An avi file or mp3 will work both on a Windows platform and Mac as well. The only thing that differes is the software used to play it.
