I've disabled AVG and windows firewall, tried to connect to a remote desktop and the other way around having someone connect to me yet no joy. I get the feeling that AVG is doing something to annoy me all the settings are correct within the OS which is xp pro and I'm running out of ideas please help as I'm about to throw this thing out the window.

Can you ping between the two computers? I'd guess you have a router blocking it.

I can ping to external, i can do almost everything. I'm sure it's the firewall.

If you've disabled the firewall then that shouldn't be a problem.

What error/problem are you actually running into?
