1x AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 939

1x Asus ATI x1300/TD/128M/A VGA card
1x Asus 16x DVD/RW (PATA)

Had,

LinkWorld LPE2-23 450W PSU

I had lots of trouble with this PSU from the begining. I even had to replace the Mobo/1 RAM card/1 HDD & even the VGA card because of this Damn PSU(I think). Then the PSU burntout.Lucky me, I had warrenty for all but the PSU.Now I want to buy the best PSU that matches my PC.

QUESTION #1:

My question is what kind of a PSU I should I buy?

QUESTION #2:

In our country we cannot get a new good PSU 'cos of the high price. But I can get a secondhand branded P4 PSU for lesser. Can I modify a Branded P4 PSU to work with my PC? and How?

psu

#1 rule: highest 12v -- a 20amp 400w is better then a 18amp 450w

#2 rule read number 1

i use 35-40 amp on low end systems - this is usa 1000- $2000
40-50amp amp on $1500-$2000

50-60 amp on $1800-$2200

60-80amp on high end systems

12v is the rule!

What is a "P4 PSU"?
Your system does not seem to have any high-power components, so as long as it has the correct 24-pin main power connector and the 4-pin CPU power connector, and is decent quality and power, it should work. Perhaps others in your country/region can recommend good places to get decent power supplies?

P4 PSU means a PSU wit 20pin connector + 4pin cpu pw connector. but my mobo needs 24pin con + 4pin cpu pw con. can I modify and convert a PSU wit 20pin connector + 4pin cpu pw connector to a 24pin con + 4pin cpu pw con PSU?

The extra 4 pins in the 24-pin connector just supply more of the same voltages as in the 20-pin, so there's a good chance that using an unmodified P4 supply will work, since your system shouldn't be using a lot of power. Just plug the 20-pin connector into the 24pin MB leaving 4 pins unused on the end (the connector should be keyed so it only fits in one end and not the other).
