Cannot boot from cd plz help

hey guys hope everyone is ok!!! i need your help once more.
a friend gave me his computer to fix but i cannot load windows xp.when i use the boot windows xp cd in the blue screen it shows an error saying that /i386/.../ntskrnl.exe is missing or something and then i press the button and it restarts. cannot even format the disk.anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it? formating is a big option too
plz help!!!!!!!

Get a tested boot version of windows xp cd, seems the one you have is corrupt or missing essential installation files. If still behaves the same, do a memory test.

i thought of that too but the thing is that when the computer boots it goes into the windows menu (safe mode and that) and what ever i do it still says the same thing. if it took the hdd and put it in my computer to format it will it work? i just dont want to try it and do anything wrong to my computer
