Will OCing from 800 to 820 on 3870 do anything

That price is about twice what you should be paying for those cards. And no, it won't do anything except make the card run a little hotter maybe.

I think one 4850 would be better than 2 3870's anyways. ... you can get one of those for under $150.

Yeah, never buy anything from "Best" Buy. That store sucks, and unless some pricing error occurs, they always charge more than everyone else.

That was just a link to show which card. I bought the cards 8 months ago for $120 ea. I will replace them in the spring. Sorry for the confusion.

I was wondering if i could squeeze anything extra out of them. I will not OC the memory clock. Every time i OC a gpu's memory it starts getting artifacts.

hahahaha, no. how bout you and me compare benchmarks.
two 3870s will crush a single 4850 m8. mine run all my games beautifully(even crysis)

but to answer your question, that little of an OC will not do much. but if you want you can OC them yourself to around 850 in CCC. that setting has been stable for me

Yeah a pair of 3870's are much better than a 4850. Infact my old CF 3870's OC'd pushed out the same performance (generally, not always) as my current 1gb 4870 at 1600 res, of course I'm at 1920 now and going to add a 2nd 1gb 4870...

But yeah definetly engage overdrive and let it oc you're 3870's, you'll get a 5% boost or so.
The best thing you can do is upgrade (if possible) to a MB that gives you 2 x16 bit lanes. When I moved from from 2 x8 to 2 x16 I got a 35% boost in my 3dmark scores, and about a 40% in fps in NWN2 and Mass Effect. The whole "8bit is good enough" is pure BS. A good CF setup will use up that bandwidth in a second...

Try OC'ing through CCC if you're concerning about unstability and artifacts. There's an "Autotune" feature in CCC that will automatically detect test your card for the the highest stable OC. This way you can OC both GPU and Memory clocks.

nooooo way, dont EVER use the auto tune. it over exagerates your card's OCing potential in most cases.
it set both my 3870s to 890core and 1345mem.
insane much??
i launched crysis and it crashed about 20 seconds later after i tryed a map lol
