Is mem upgrade worth it?

I recently built a system with a Q6600 on a 680i mobo and it has 2 x 2 Gb of G. Skill DDR2 800 @ 5-5-5-15. I saw a deal today on Newegg for Corsair XMS2 2 X 1 GB @ 4-4-4-12 for $10. I'm not sure what performance will be like if I mix the memory of different modules that have different timings. I primarily use this system for gaming and wanted to know if it would help to buy the additional 2 GB.

If you have a 64-bit system you can use memory above 4GB.
The memory will default to the lowest speed and timings.
You can try tightening the timings on all memory and running memtest86+ for errors. You may have to increase the voltage also to achieve this.

i recommend against using mem from diff manufacturers expecially if they have diff timings, just up the vlts on ur gskil and ull prob get 4-4-4-12

I'm fine with not getting too much of a performance boost, I was just wondering if it is at all possible that mixing the two different memories would degrade performance.
