Biostar TA770 A2+ (SB600) with Phenom II?

Forum Motherboards & Memory : Motherboards Biostar TA770 A2+ (SB600) with Phenom II?

Hey,
I currently own a Biostar TA770 A2+ mobo, with the older SB600 south bridge, along with an Athlon X2 6000+. I sent an email to Biostar asking if my current mobo is compatible with the new Phenom II processors and they simply replied "Sorry, no support." I wanted to know if anyone has upgraded to a Phenom II with an SB600 board and if everything has worked? If I wanted to upgrade, would I have to buy a new mobo AND processor? (cuz that was the main reason I was excited to hear that the new Phenom II's were backwards compatible with AM2+ mobos)

Thanks,

Ahslan

In theory, they're backward compatible, but only if your motherboard maker puts in the effort to update the BIOS to support the new CPU. Since that costs them time and money and doesn't sell more motherboards, many companies don't bother except for their most recent MBs. In general, the lower-end/cheaper MB makers have fewer such BIOS updates.

Bottom line: yes, most likely you need a new MB.

WOW...this blows....hard....

Technology changes too quickly to expect to be able to upgrade your CPU much beyond what's available when you buy the MB. On the bright side, you got a nice MB for a cheap price, and a new AMD-based MB will likely be substantially cheaper than an Intel chipset one.

actually you can run Phenom II (95W TDP max) on your TA-770 A2+ (SE & non SE) all you need to do is just update your

BIOS,use C25 bios,heres the link for the review http://www.rebelshavenforum.com/si [...] 5;t=000332

you can download C25 BIOS from biostar china website.

mmmm...good find...I think I might try this whenever I do decide to upgrade to a phenom II...so far, my 6000+ is holding up but its only a matter of time before I will need to upgrade...maybe next year or so...who knows...
I cant use a 125w phenom II even though my x2 6000+ is 125w?
