Heya, this is my first post so sorry if I put this in the wrong section.

So, as the title says I am deciding whether to get an Intel E8400 or Q8200 in my new PC as they are around the same price and I don't want to pay the extra £20 for a Q6600 though will if necessary.

I have heard bad things about the Q8200 because of the low cache and multiplier as I will be overclocking it but because I will be encoding video and multitasking aswell as gaming I thought it would make more sense to get the quad core.

So far the new setup should comprise of:

Asus P5KPL-AM mobo
OCZ 4gb (2x2gb) 800mhz DDR2 memory
Scythe Ninja II
Asus HD 4850 512mb

yeah if that's your case best bet is a quad core. i usually diss on the Q6600 but for someone who actually needs it it might be to your advantage.

Of the two choices, go E8400. Simply put the Q8200 has such a low mulitplier, you can't overclock much with it. You'd be hard press as it is to overclock an E8400 on that motherboard.

If this was a strictly work computer, no doubt, pick the Q8200, but with gaming, the E8400 is the better choice.

How about the new AMD 720 X3 BE? would that make more sense? it's cheaper than those two and I get around I7 920 scores on high res screens for gaming.

my monitor is 1920x1200 so the 4850 sits in just right.but the mobo I'm looking at now has an nvidia sli chipset so could I still use the 4850 in there? or would it make more sense to get a 9800gt and overclock it for now and get a second one or a GTX 285 once I get enough money.
