re check the heatsink is seated properly

Intel socket 775 are known for issues when applying.

take the board out from the case then apply the heatsink

the heat sink locating pins on each corner will click when applied correctly..

I would also suggest you remove the old heatsink compound, get some artic silver and re apply..

this will solve your issues.

Yeah hellboy probably has it covered. Completely clean off your heatsinks base and the processors die. My personal favorite if you dont have special cleaning chemicals is to take qtips and alcohol and work the thermal paste out. then slightly wet the qtips and clean the die off very well. continue to do this till the qtips come off rather clean. Then apply a better compound.

make sure the fins of the heatsink are free of dirt and dust and make sure you have plenty of air flow in your case.
