Did anyone manage to get this avivo video converter to work ?!
I'm using 8.12 beta now and it didn't work for me. while converting movies it uses CPU instead of GPU to convert files, and converted file is not playable after that :(

Can anyone confirm that video converter works with finals?

I would assume it would work since it's the final release. but not tried it yet.
however 1st benchmarks.

Pfff, this time ati gone ballistic! The avivo video converter is NOT included in Cat 8-12 as it was in earlier versions. And it is suppozed to debute exactly with 8-12! WTF ?! (Yes, I know that it is located in basic view on CCC only, but it is not there)

wow! I already got huge improvements with 8.12 beta on farcry2, cod4, cod5, legions. final 8.12 will really give me a boost.

Farcry2, I couldn't see textures over 1280 res on medium with 8.11. 8.12 beta let me go to 1650 on very high at over 50fps. Cant wait to see what full 8.12 does.

e7200 @ 3.8G
4G pc6400
2 x 3870 CF
win xp 32 sp3

Epic fail. The 8.12 is epic fail.

As yonef has described, this has happened to me as well. It doesn't come with AVIVO bundled!! I had to download the Avivo package seperately.

Second of all, when I used 8.12 beta, the AVIVO converter WORKS. With 8.12 official and AVIVO converter, it DOES NOT WORK!

Videos that I'm 100% sure have encoded before with 8.12 beta drivers no longer work with the new ones. Even if they could be played, it turns out all blocky

AVIVO converter 8.12 does NOT use the power of your graphics card (at least I fail to see how) here's my proof:

Things to note: My graphics card's default diode temperature during idle is about 55 degrees celcius.

You would notice right off the bat that my CPU is on 100% load (which if I use my graphics cards to do it, shouldn't). On the other hand, my graphics card remained nice and cool. something's not right.

I haven't tested the games yet but just the video conversion part is very disapointing.

I installed the separate Avivo package hoping that it will show up on the ADVANCED menu.. and it seems they haven't done so even though most of us are using it in ADVANCED mode. I had to go back to basic mode to use it.

I posted this in the PC games section but I will post it here too. The only game I have benched so far is GTA4 with the 8.12 cats. With the 8.11 I averaged 29fps. With the 8.12's, I get 34 FPS with the following settings (same settings for each). My signature didn't show up so I have an e6400@ 2.8 and 4850 @ 680/1050

^Yes but technically ATI is supposed to bundle AVIVO converter with the 4800 series drivers. This didn't happen so I tried the AVIVO converter for x1000 series.

I've tried that before with the old 8.12 beta drivers and it worked.

If you've got a link to an "official" 8.12 Avivo Converter for ATI 4870 please post the link. I'd be glad to try it.

I've downloaded the avivo package as well and install it , but it didn't work for me. When I convert a file, the converted file has no video, only audio :(  and while converting it uses CPU instead of GPU !

i've had the same experience. i was really looking forward to a gpu-accelerated video converter.

I just rolled back to AVIVO 8.11 version release and the same thing is happening. I'm starting to suspect that it is the 8.12 Catalyst driver that is causing this issue. I'm going to try to roll back to 8.12 beta drivers and see what happens.

Funny, NVIDIA PR have been telling me that AVIVO is more a CPU than GPU transcoder for a while now.

How can they use a CPU to transcode a 2 hr long video in just 6 mins? That's what I don't get.

Well I just swapped back to 8.12 RC3 and for some odd reason now... it's doing the same thing =/ How come it worked for me before? lol...

I'm still getting that blocky problem and some transcoded vids don't even play at all.

**Edit**
ok.. I double checked and I have at least my fraps video working for transcoding... But still... what about my other vids :S

@randomizer: well I used GPU-Z to test this time and it seems it's eatting up my CPU like crazy. My cpu usage is at 93 (low) and 100% (most of the time). GPU-Z says GPU usage is at about 17 precent every 3-4 seconds with 0% usage in the interval between.

That's exactly what they were saying. AVIVO saturates the CPU. Hopefully some less biased people will test it more thoroughly though, and compare it to the latest badaboom, which still doesn't support many useful formats.

I've tryed on .wmv and .mp4 but it still transcoding only audio for me. and still uses CPU not GPU. (using GPU-z to monitor gpu load).
I'm with vista x64 as well. It seems that this is common to x64 only.

Avivo must be a vista only application. I do not see it in my Xp based machines control center.

You can forcefully get it via XP download section to try it out.

If AVIVO is for vista 32bit only then this is a failure considering how they claim they're going to deploy stream and avivo over 2 million users when there's not that many out there using vista 32 bit.

I am getting better results from 8.12 beta.

I gained about 30% from 8.11 to 8.12 beta. On farcry2 i went from 1280 to 1650 res and gained 20fps. nice

I LOST about 25% from 8.12 beta to 8.12. 15fps loss on Farcry 2.

I reinstalled 8.12 beta. It works hella better for me than 8.12 full release.

my specs:
ga-ex38-ds4
e7200 @ 3.8G
2 x 3870 CF, visiontek OC edition
4G pc6400 patriot 2.0v
win xp 32 sp3

Well i downloaded CAT 8.12 beta before the final release and in FC2 i got 10FPS more on average and in STALKER CS and Crysis Warhead i got 3-4 FPS more, the good thing that this driver did was that it increased the Min FPS too,for example in STALKER CS my min FPS was 19 and with 8.12 Beta its 23,and moving from 8.12 Beta to 8.12 final well i actually didnt see any differences maybe one or 2 more FPS.

I tried 8.12 last night. First BSOD I've had in Vista. Took me two hours worth of going into safe mode, running driver sweeper etc... just to clean up the mess and get the 8.10 drivers running again. ATI seems to have really dropped the ball on 8.12.

is it really that hard for ATI to write drivers for their own hardware?

i dont get it, after 300 releases (just my guesstimate) they still suck.

if you propose that you can write a better driver then ati, by all means, do it and continue to bitch at theyre drivers. otherwise, be quiet and go sit down in your corner

marshmellow1991: for a while there was a guy named Omega who wrote optimized drivers for ati cards. I don't know if he's still doing it though.

at the avivo troubles: So basically, you use a sub-par tool to do something and instead of using a better tool that isn't dependent on ATI, you just get angry and try to bruteforce your way into more trouble?

www.doom9.org will help you tremendously I believe.

I downloaded and installed 8.12 last night. Installer ran without a hitch (as it has for every release since 8.8) and after a reboot everything was running great.

Avivo program was installed as part of the full CCC install, and I quickly ran through the wizard to make sure it was available. I don't have any video on that PC to trans code, but I'll try it soon.

I haven't had an issue with Vista and ATI drivers yet. I've been using 32 bit Vista for almost 1 year now. I wouldn't go back to XP.

oh did i hurt a fanboy's feelings?

ati drivers are quite painful. its like watching shaq brick his freethrows on a down the wire game and have his team lose by a point.

if you're writing driver softwares for almost half a decade, as your job, you should already be good at it by now. i picture ati's driver authoring department as a bunch of 1970s hippies who gets "free love" as salary (the love should come from their former ceo).

i can write a good driver for ati, too.

its goes like this:

// COCKTALYST 8.13 beta

if (bsod == 1)
return to "retailer" or "e-tailer"
else if (bsod >= 2)
throw away
else
TEOTWAWKI

btw, this code is crossfire aware. so 2 cards will theoretically provide 2 times the bsod.

kidding aside. im just dissappointed, i should be reaping the benefits of 8.12 by now, 3 weeks of waiting and this. GRRRRRRR!!!

I read this forum before trying the 8.12 drivers and now I am wondering if I should 'update'.
I am using the 32bit vista, 3870 video card and using 8.11 drivers and would like to try the avivo, but so far haven't seen anything on it, only 64 bit problems.
Is there anyone with my specs using avivo successfully?

I installed 8.12 the same day it was released onto my XP system. No Problems. Even Avivo worked 100%. It transcoded a video clip in no time, although I couldn't see that the GPU was doing much work. Maybe there is a nother way to see if it indeed uses the GPUs. The vid came out fine - fair quality on wmv, audio and video.

8.12 also works fine on my Vista 64. Avivo is NOT supported on 64bit Vista, but might be sometime soon, hopefully. I'm quite certain that there are much more people whose drivers work out fine than those who have issues for some reason. My 4870 1g have given me no issues to date, except that it does not overclock well, which is actually no biggy to me.

Yeah it seems like only 64bit is being discriminated by the AVIVO converter. As for OC, you won't get as high of an OC as the 512mb version did due to the "high density" ram which makes it heat up a lot faster.

I'm also having the same problem right now.
