I currently have a system with:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
Gigabyte GA-EP31-DS3KL
Asus HD 4850 (512Mb)
Hiper Type-M 580W

I want to sell my CPU and buy an AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition, my motherboard and get a Biostar TA790GX-A2+ 790GX and my PSU and get a 650W Xigmatek NRP-MC651 at Christmas 2009. However, I am unsure whether I should either:

Keep HD 4850 and buy another to run in Crossfire.
Sell HD 4850 and buy HD 4870 and in two year's time purchase another to run in Crossfire.

What should I do?

Not sure can't you crossfire 4870 with the 4850?

I just looked at it, and the highest difference I saw between 2X HD 4850's and HD 4850 + 4870 is only 4FPS...
