Is anyone aware of benchmarks out there that document both gaming and workstation GPU solutions in a range of tests including both industrial and gaming applications?
I probably don't have the cash needed for a QuadroFX or FireGL, but I've never seen a benchmark documenting just how much faster a workstation GPU will render 3d models and animation over a similar system with a basic OpenGL gaming card.
I mostly use 3dsMax, After Effects, and a couple of NLE's. And, of course, a little gaming after hours

Yep, IMO, check out soft moding, available for both ATi and nVidia.
Check under SoftGL and SoftQuadro.

Yeah, I was looking at some of the softmod results. My initial impression was that nVidia softmodding was further along, but I'll look into SoftGL. The new Ati FirePro (RV770-based) posted some impressive figures at HotHardware's recent benchmark.
