Hello,
I'm trying to restore internet access for a friend. She has an old Compaq laptop (Series PP2140, Model# 1456VQLIT) that was running Windows XP home edition. Apparently some files have been corrupted (connectivity to the ISP checks out but I can't engage with the browser or any other application) so I'd like to do a clean install, but she no longer has the original CDs. I have the SN and product key, but am unsure of the best way to obtain the requisite files. A vector, please?

You may be able to find a restore set from here http://www.restoredisks.com/.

Or look on sites like craigslist for an XP OEM disk. Just make sure the disk is the same type that the key is for (Pro, Home, etc..).

find any windows xp home and re-install.. done.. just use the product key of the laptop.. ask people man there'd be lot of them with home edition cds.. or like hang-the-9 said find it somewhere on the net..
