A8n-sli Deluxe x2 4400+ overclocking?

Hi guys, im new on computers and I have a A8n-sli deluxe with Amd athlon 64 x2 4400+ with 4gb ram =2 sets of corsair xms ddr 400mhz unbuffered sticks and a 8800gts 640 graphics card = a craetive labs audio card and was wondering how I go about overclocking it to around its max so I can play some late model games, Ive read up on here on some specs people have running but when i try them out I just keep getting the blue screen of death no matter what. Is it me or is the pc just not upto overclocking? Any advice would be great. cheers

I remember having that board, and it was a good board for the time. However, now the s939's are far outdated, though having the dual core CPU and 4GB of RAM should keep it somewhat snappy. From what I remember, I was unable to get a good OC from that system (I'm not sure if it was the board or the CPU that held me back, I was a newbie at the time). You should be able to change the FSB speed up, but you'll also need to increase the voltage to the CPU and keep in mind that changing the FSB speed also ups the speed of your RAM, which can very quickly put it out of its spec and cause the BSODs you're getting.

I wish I had more time, I would pull out that system again (using it for a HTPC box, but currently unused) and poke through the BIOS and give you some pointers on what you really need to change. If you can, though, post some pics of your BIOS pages and I'll see what I can remember about that system.

I'd like to see the OC settings as well. And remember that just because other people can reach XXX speed doesn't mean you will.

what cooler do you have, if its the stock one, you might want to consider getting an after market cooler, though try to get one that has support for newer sockets as well (shouldn't be hard)

Its gotta wacking big pipe cooler setup goin on, its a bit space consuming but seems to do the job no probs. The PC itself was a hand me down from a mate about 2 years ago and Ive just used it for photoshop and net surfing mainly. He gave me some old FPS war games and it seems Ive kinda got the bug now
Im now contemplating a new system at the minute to do all of the above but im on a tight budget ( $1000 AU give or take a few coins) and from what Ive researched Ive concluded the following setup may be best for me, what do you guys think cause Im realy not 100% sure as im a stark raving noob at all this spec jargon but Ive got the basics sussed I think!!?
feel free to critic and or make suggestions lads. I can keep the old system for downloads and a spare back up box ......
