Ext drives not recognized

OK. I've bought two bare Samsung hard drives and installed them in external enclosures. Ones a Samsung F2 1.5TB drive (3.5") I installed in a SunbeamTech Airbox with both usb and esata connections. The other drive is a Samsung Spinpoint 640GB (2.5") installed in a acomdata enclosure with both usb and esata connections. When I connect them usb to my PC, Vista says it's installing drivers and then says complete, but the drives are not recognized in "my computer" or any where else. This is the first time I've assembled my own external drives (purchased ones work fine) and I'm sure I'm missing something. It seems like a driver issue, went to Samsung site but drives are not listed. Can anyone help a newbie?

Found the problem. paperdoc answered a similar post and it solved my problem. I had to go in to disk management and format. Go figure! Thanks paperdoc!!!
