Hi all! and nice to met you guys

Last 2 weeks i made an "unexpected" upgrade...that is i wasnt planning to but it happened.

Went to a q9550 instead of a Core 2 Duo

From 8800GT to GTX295

all the above with DDR2/800/1066 RAM on a Gigabyte P35-DQ6 M/B

My questions guys are 2:

1) Is it normal for CPU-z to show variation in CPU speeds. I mean it goes from 2,83 to 2,00 GHZ.Is it because of EIST or i should worry?

2) Do i really need another motherboard e.g. P45-DS4 / DQ6 because i hold my new hardware to perform or i can continue using this for now? Will i see a noticable difference in performance?

Thanks

Elias

1) yes it's fine

2) that board should be ok, although I'll need input from others whether the PCIe1.0 of the P35 chipset will hold back a GTX295...

How much RAM do you have?

also, how did you make an unexpected upgrade of so many items!

I think you should be fine. The the pci slot might bottleneck the gtx somewhat, but I don't think so much as to warrant the hassle of changing your motherboard.

I'm getting married too, but I don't think my wife is going to let me get a quad core to update my machine with. . . Maybe another TB of storage though.

You might need to flash the motherboard with the old processor, so it can work properly with the new processor.

That is EIST or C1E.
