Cache is a section of ram built into a HDD. It has fast read/write speeds like all ram and serves to allow the drive to assemble out of order data to send over the connection to the motherboard, or to hold blocks of data while waiting for the head to arrive where it needs to when writing. I do not know in what areas differences in cache size affect performance, but 32 MB is the largest size that you will find on almost any consumer drive right now, and so should be perfectly adequate.
