Hello,
Can a SATA CD/DVD drive be used with a sound card?

  1. Yes, it can. I'm guessing that you are asking because you are wondering about the audio cable that used to go directly from the drive to the card. I have never had a problem omitting this cable.

    Thanks elel,

Thats exactly what I was wondering, was about the audio cable. So in other words, the SATA picks up the sound card through the mother board.
  3. I'm not sure about the exact sound path, but I think that it is now handled through the operating system and sound drivers. I never experimented, but I think that the cable carried analog sound from converters within the cd drive to the card, saving the rest of the computer the trouble of handling the stream.
