Hello, i have one last problem. My friend picked out parts to build a computer with, but after some research i ended up switching around some things for a different build. My question is, which of these two is actually better? I will be using the computer for gaming and photoshop work.

My build:

Mobo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131299

Graphics - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102770

PSU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153035

Processor - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115037
(Might get quad core instead)

RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184

HD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136073

My friends build:

So which one would be better for my needs? Also would a 2.5ghz quad be noticeably better for multitasking and system speed over a 3.0ghz duo? or would the quad not make a difference over the duo?

It's a mixed bag. Your choice of motherboard/CPU/RAM/GPU is better, but his PSU is better. I would also definitely swap out that HD for the WD6400AAKS for only $5 more. The 640GB drives are quite a bit faster.

You only really need a good quality 430w PSU to run your current build, but to leave room for future upgrades, I've included a few PSU's to consider. They are much better buys than your TT PSU that you selected. The Corsair and PCP&C PSU's have 5 yr. warranties and the Antec one has a 3 yr. warranty, so consider that before you buy.

RAM - $58 - $20 MIR = $38!! Is faster than your selection (5-4-4-12 speeds) and still runs at stock voltage (1.8v), which will require less power and run cooler! You won't need any faster DDR2 than 800mHz, unless your going into the extreme OC'ing ranges!!
mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

HD - $70 shipped!! Fast and cheap, what else do you need??
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

GPU - $160 - $20 MIR = $140!!! Hard to beat the 4850's in this price range.
SAPPHIRE 100245L Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail

There you go, probably going to be one of your better setups for the given amount of $, which is $784 - $55 in MIR's (using the Antec 900 w/650w Neo PSU) = $729!! There is $35.32 in shipping charges (mainly from the Antec 900 combo deal and a little from the mobo combo).
