I have a USB 2.0 Hub plugged into a USB 2.0 port on my system. My question is: If I plug a USB 1.1 Device into the hub will it decrease the performance of USB 2.0 devices plugged into the same hub?
I vaguely recall hearing somewhere that if the USB 1.1 is plugged into a USB 2.0 the USB 2.o devices will be forced to perform at the USB 1.1 data rate.
You are correct. Your 1.1 will reduce your 2.0's performance. You want to segregate all your 1.1 devices to one bus. Usually on the back of the machine each pair of 2xUSB ports are on the same bus. So if you plug in your 1.1 to a matched pair on the back of the machine and your 2.0 hub into a different set the two should be segregated and you'll maintain performance on your 2.0 hub.
Thanks for the information. I also have a USB 1.1 Hub that I'll hook up as you suggested. One other question: Is there a way to identify if a device is 1.1 or 2.0? I know for sure which of my devices are which except one or two.
