Laptop hard drives in Desktop?

Simple question can you connect a laptop hard Drive into a desktop. I need to know becuase my friends laptops motherboard cracked but his HD is fine. He wants me to back some data off if. I know how to install a HD but im not shure about laptop HD.

Yes, you can install a laptop HD is a desktop PC. If it's a PATA drive you'll need to purchase a laptop to desktop IDE adapter like the one listed found at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812203012. There are other styles but the idea is the same. If you have a sata laptop drive the connectors are the same and you can plug it in using a standard set of SATA cables. Also, you could use a usb solution such as this to connect the drive externally via a USB connector.
