Is My HDD Dying?

i dont konw whats wrong with it, but i started doing folding @ home on it, and now the hdd goes GRRR-GRRR-G-GRRR-GRRRRR if u know what i mean, then nothing, then it does it again, and my computer sort of freezes up. and then i open a folder or a program or something that would get the hard drive moving and it freezes, then stops freezing and sounds normal again.

i think it is the hdd because its not the one thats originall in the laptop, and im missing the hd tray, and once the hard drive fell out, so im suspicious of it. however, it has been working fine till now.
20gb 4200rpm ibm hdd

Wow, that really does sound suspicious. I'd back up without delay and get a new drive.

I had a similar problem and eventually the HDD let me down , but after a few months tho
