How "bad" is X1800GTO ?

Last response: in Graphics & Displays

I just got another card for free which I know nothing about other than the fact it's 2 years old +.
The card is Powercolor X1800GTO 256mb GDDR 3, 500mhz GPU and 1000MHZ RAM.

I am just wondering if I can play modern games with it and it will work smooth..
Not expecting GTA or anything to run, because it doesn't even run in 2008 cards with good performance, but any other average game? Say, racing games, quests, NBA, etc.

Thanks !

it WILL 4gb DDR2 800mhz and 5050e CPU.

BTW, does anybody know if I can open the hidden pixel shaders on that card ?

I think you are getting that card mixed up with the X800GTO, some of those cards could be unlocked.....I know cause I have one.

I just traded in a BFG 7800GS AGP card to BFG and they sent me a 9600GT for free.....well it cost me 15 bucks to ship the card to BFG. Not a bad deal. Follow the link for details.

The GTO/XL has a bit more power then the 7600GT. The X1800XT compared well to the 7800/7900, but ATI lacked a good midrange card at the time. By disabling pipes, ATI finally came out with a product that while costing a bit more then the 7600GT, performed just a bit better.

In terms of current hardware, I'm not sure. The x1800XT was about the speed of the x1950pro, so it would be around the 2600XT/3650. The GTO should be even less, so around the speed of the 3450? You should be able to play some games with it, but try to stick to 1024x768.

I don't remember how to unlock the pipes. It was a popular mod at the time however, so you should be able to find the details. Success rate was fairly high, as ATI was disabling working chips inorder to come up with something to answer the 7600GT.
