everyone my name's brian and I'm from Argentina... this is my first time here but I have been reading your comments and learning a lot... It's been very helpful so far.
I want to build my first system, a middle range pc for photoshop, video editing, autocad, fashion cad, embroidery i2, web design and managing my small business project (apparel and graphic design). I need something reliable for 24/7 use and fast enough to keep all programs smoothly. Components here a little bit over priced 10%/20% which is not much but I would prefer stay middle range for budget issues...
-intel q6600 =usd 240
-cooler like Thermaltake Big Typhoon Vx= usd 90- I've been reading about vendetta and better coolers but I can not find any of those...
-asus p5qc with more ram 6 banks 178 usd
or asus p5q e with 4 banks but with crossfire 200 usd
-case cooler master centurion 534 bk with 3x 12 fans= 75usd looks nice and cheap
memory ddr2 800 8gb 128usd or ddr2 1066 for 230 usd
So my concerns are is o.c reliable 24/7, should I go for it or keep stock, is it better ddr2 800 oc vs ddr2 1066 stock... What cards should I pick,I'm clueless.. I cannot aford an open gl card, ati fire are unavailable (any model) and If I import one from the u.s it cost me x2... Importers only have the quadro fx1700 for 750 usd ... Should I go for a games card, ati or nvidia, a geforce 9600gt/ radeon 4850 or it would be better to go sli 8600 or crossfire radeon 4670.
well excuse my poor english and this big question but I'll be buying the system next week and I can not afford any mistake and I would like to get the best out of the purchase... Thanks
No problem, your english is better than half the english speakers on this forum.
As to your questions, I am not super familiar with Intel setups, but I believe DDR2 800 is fine for at least a medium overclock on a Q6600.
For the card, I always recommend getting the fastest single card you can afford. The 4850 has dropped quite a bit recently, so either it or a 4830 would probably be a good buy. I'm afraid I don't know which card (ATI or NVIdia) would run the apps you use better.
Sorry for the bunch of maybes, but I'm sure someone else will come along more experienced with your setup to help.

Oh yikes, after seeing the price difference for DDR2 1066 and 800 where you are (for me it is very small now) definitely go with the 800MHz. There is no way 1066 is worth the nearly double price.

well, try to get some good but a bit cheaper crossfirex Intel P45 mobo like Asus P5Q Pro or Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS4. Cheapest one might be Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L if you don´t plan ro run any crossfirex. Asus P5Q E is more expensive. DDR2-800 is definitely your choice and try to find some good aftermarket cooler (like Xigmatek HDT-S1283 -cheap and reliable) than you can push your q6600 up to 3.3-3.4 Ghz stable (if you are lucky maybe even 3.6) but check the case whether it fits inside. GPU - ATI 4850 good choice but maybe even something like 4830 can do the job…I dunno, I am gamer, you are other case…good luck
you can go for P45 or P35 Gigabyte cheaper boards they are also great overclockers to OC q6600 to 3.2 its realy easy job and 1 9800 or 8800 GTX would be more then what you need for photoshop
2 WD 500 GB combine them in to RAID 0 and here you go you have great rig for photoshop and other software you use
if you go for good amount of overclockable DDR2 from OCZ,MUSHKIN or Corsair you can get to 1000 mhz speeds np so you can save money here
if you not gong to OC 1066 is waste of money and the difference between 800 and 1066 you gona feel only you if you are going to OC
you are going to do a lot of video encoding and such so your CPU going to be under heavy load most of the time so if you gona OC consider better cooling solution like Xigmatek or T.R.U.E
Q6600 likes synched ram so DDR-800 is perfect. Get low timings 4-4-4-12 is common on these usually around 2.1v. You can do 3.2 Ghz w/ 8x multiplier 400 FSB speed and your ram will run synched 1:1 at 800. I've got mine @ 3.6Ghz on air 9x multiplier 400 FSB speed and the ram synched 1:1 at 800.

I agree with this. DDR2 1066 is only truly usefull if you plan to really OC your CPU. If you just OC the Q6600 to 3GHz than DDR2 800 will be fine.
You can safely overclock the Q6600 to 3.2ghz w/ the ram synched at 800 if you have a good cooler. You shouldn't have to increase the voltage too much so heat shouldn't issue. I don't necessarily agree with The Animal about oc'ing. For the programs you're using it would be a huge help.
