Abit AA8XE ddr2 upgrade

if my mobo has pc2-4200 in it can i upgrade to say 6500 or 8500 or will it not be compatible it a alienware w/ 925 chipset, AA8XE mobo, P4 3.73, nvidia 6800 ultra please help

It supports DDR2 533 or DDR2 400 only. The maximum module size is 1 GB for a total of 4 GB.

PC2-6400 or faster will run at 533 MHz and it will be compatible only if the SPD has a table for 533 MHz.

roger do you happen to know if the ocz reaper pc2 8500 would work i just want to get something i can always put into a diff mobo thanks

I found two sites where they used CPU-Z to display the SPD table and JEDEC #1 has a frequency of 266 MHz (or 270 MHz).

Both have a different part number.
