I want to buy a Graphics card for my 17" monitor to play at 1280 x 1024 resolution with full AA and AF.
well as usual the benchmark is Crysis on maxout settings where it should give atleast 40-45 fps avg.

I would spent something in range of 100 - 200$

Before we start, your expectations for Crysis are honestly a little high. Check this chart out...

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gaming-graphics-charts-q3-2008/Crysis-v1-21,756.html

While I believe the processor used to get these results was a little weak (E6*** Core 2 at 2.93 Ghz?), 40-45 FPS in Crysis at the settings you mentioned is still incredible.

More benchmarks if you don't believe me...

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/radeon-hd4870-1024_14.html#sect0

Regardless...there are still decent cards available for the price range you are looking at. These cards will notably play Crysis on high with good frames and play other games on high or very high with great frames.

HD 4870 - I would normally suggest the GTX 260, but that's a hair above your price range. Fortunately, the HD 4870, which performs at a similar level, can be found for less than $200 now. Great performance, but a little toasty.

HD 4850 - $160 - $170...arguably one of the better buys out there.

Now an important question for you:

What kind of processor and power supply do you have?

FUTURE PROOFING

a card that will run one game now at 1280x1024 wont run a new game at the same res a year from now, its more down to your budget - can you afford a GTX280? obviously not so you buy the best thing you can get at your budget etc.

Also depends on your rig and what it can do eg power that card, no point if its a Pentium D or Celeron

The 4850 is a champ for the price and will play MOST of TODAYS games at that res but dont expect next gen games to run so well etc.

Depends on your setup. I say get a 4870 since they can be found for less than $200. If you're going to get a 4850 get the 1GB version. If you have an SLi board then you may want to think about getting two 9800 Gts to run in SLi.

Sorry was away !!!!!!!!

Well i thought the resolution might help me :ouch:

My budget is upto 200$ !!!
i would prefer a high setting with 0AA and 25-30 fps should be fine

and my system
AMD ATHLON X2 5600+
1 x 2GB MEMORY running at 800 mhz
SMPS : i would have it new (i had checked it out) hope 600W would be good since system is not heavily loaded (other then 2HDD and DVD WR nothing else)

and one more question :
what impact might DX11 have on gaming hardware ??

Based on your recent post, it sounds like it is time for an HD 4850.

A web site with links to reviews:

http://www.gpureview.com/Radeon-HD-4850-card-566.html

And as far as DX11 goes...all I know is what I've read on Wikipedia, which isn't much and isn't necessarily the most reliable. Regardless...

Microsoft unveiled Direct3D 11 at the Gamefest 08 event in Seattle, with the major scheduled features including GPGPU support, tessellation support, and improved multi-threading support to assist video game developers in developing games that better utilize multi-core processors. Direct3D 11 will run on Windows Vista and its successor Windows 7. Parts of the new API such as multi-threaded resource handling can be supported on Direct3D 9/10/10.1-class hardware. Hardware tesselation and Shader Model 5.0 will require Direct3D 11 supporting hardware. Microsoft has since released the Direct3D 11 Technical Preview.

i said hd 3850 x2 in crossfire that means 4 gpu's (hd 3850 x2 - 1gb ddr3, 512 bit); 2 hd 3850 x2 = 2 GB ddr3 1024 bits is that correct now ?

Hmm... You're expecting a little too less for $200. My 8800GTS(G92) runs it at very high(xp hack) with fps ranging from 20 to above 40(depending which location) at 1280 x 1024 (without AA and AF that is).

For $200 I got to agree with you guys, 4870!

4830, 4850 4870 or 260 GTX should be fine. I kno that the 4870 512 can be fond for quite a bargain, and its perfect for that resolution, but to be honest back when I switched from 9800 GX2 to 280 GTX in aug I had that resolution, and AA could be enabled up to 16X with the 280 but with the GX2 max was 4 with out killing the card.

SO really depends on what games you want to play.

like romulus said my first choice is 4870 (or 4850) Enjoy!
