Hello

I was reading a thread (I forget which one) and the guy said that 400Mhz = DDR2 800. My motherboard says that is supports DDR2 667. I dont know what that means but I think it might mean that i can have like DDR2 1200 or something. please respond I was looking at the Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800 4Gb RAm from newegg.ca

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148214

Is this RAM supported by my motherboard (Abit 1-45CV) and is it worth the $100.00 Canadian i spend on it? If its not worth it, please tell me what is ( but it MUST look cool :) bright colours work best) I am buildign a gaming computer that runs most of the newer games.

Your motherboard will only support DDR2 667. I don't know where you got DDR2 1200 from... that would mean 600Mhz = DDR2 1200.

Like you said 400Mhz = DDR2 800. Then 333Mhz = DDR2 667. I think you messed up on your math. DDR2 667 and DDR2 1200 are not the same thing.

Your motherboard doesn't mention any support for DDR2 800 or 1200.... if the DDR2 800 "does work", it would "most likely" be underclocked to DDR2 667 speeds. Unless, your motherboard allows you to manual change it to DDR2 800 speeds. You should google this question and find out if DDR2 800 works on your motherboard.

Yeah i did mess up on my math, I thought you multiply the MHz by 2 to get the DDR2 ____. Thanks for the reply, I can ask the guy at my local computer store to see if he can tell me what i should get.

Thank you so much, I will most likely buy this RAM, or the man at my computer store can change the motherboard to something better, he said that the board he gave me was for a basic computer. The other one was for a more advanced computer system. Thank you so much

One thing to consider is that most RAM sold as DDR2 800 or 1066 or whatever also have SPD timings for DDR2 667.

This is from my current RAM which was sold as 1066. As you can see there are settings for DDR2 533 (JEDEC 266) DDR2 800 (JEDEC 400) and 1066 (EPP 533)

It is also capable of being run at 667, it just depends on the options in your BIOS.

This is from my old RAM which was sold as DDR2 800 and there are JEDEC and EPP settings for both DDR2 667and DDR2 800

Just so that you know JEDEC is the official governing body that certifies memory specifications. Some memory is capable of performing at higher levels so the manufacturers came up with EPP (Enhanced Performance Profiles) to differentiate these products (and make more money). Any DDR2 sold above 1.8v (JEDEC standard) is sold at it's EPP settings and you will likely have to go into the BIOS and change the settings.
