Zalman CNPS9700 on a Gigabyte EP45-UD3R MB

I have read many reviews with this combo, although the MB has a 4 pin CPU connecter, a 3 pin sys fan1 connector and a 3 pin pwr fan connector. The Zalman 9700 has a 3 pin power connector with a fan speed controller.

My question is what socket to use?

I assume using the 4 pin cpu connecter will not work, hence the fan speed controller
Leaving sys fan1 and pwr fan connecter
Do you need to use the fan speed controller
If so where do you keep it, inside or out side the case

Not using the fan speed controller I assume the fan will run on high

Even though the 9900 connector has 3 pins you can still plug it into the 4 pin connector of the CPU fan connection just using 3 of the pins. The plastic flange has guides to plug it in the right way.
I just ran the wire for the fan controller out the back of a hole in the case so I could adjust the fan the way I wanted it.

With the oversize heatsinks on the EP45-UD3R motherboard I have issues with the Zalman CNPS9700 LED cooler

The retaining clip for the cooler is blocked by one of the heatsinks and can't be connected.

I am looking for another option.

I had exact same problem due to the heatsink on the voltage regulators so exchanged (gotta love newegg!) the 9700 for the Xigamatek S1283 w/ I7751 retention bracket.

I prefer the CNPS 9700 cooler over most any other, The lack of a pwm fan is my only complaint. My solution to this was to swap the fan from another Zalman product which uses the exact same fan and led color but is pwm equipped.

The model of Zalman cooler I used the fan out of it CNPS 8700 NT. This is a drop in replacement. and make a great cooler even better imho.

I have 4 of these units with this mod, and I can only say that i am pleased. I am also pleased with Zalman customer support. they never let me down.
