Connecting windows 7 home premium to XP Professional

I am trying to connect a Windows 7 home premium computer to a database that resides on an XP professional computer. When I try to make an ODBC connection it faults out with connection failure. Can this be done or I have to upgrade to windows 7 professional?

turn off all the security and try it

I have turned off all of the firewalls. Is there other security I have to turn off? Thanks for the reply.
