hey everyone i just upgraded to 1 4870x2 from an nivida 8800gt and one of the games i play the most is world of warcraft. also i downloaded the new 8.12 drivers and i got to say my fps is horrible much lower then the 8800gt any opinions or suggestion on why or if i did something wrong.
With your system specs I think that you can get a much better 3dmark score. If everything is stock 13547 isn't too bad. If you can push the clocks a bit on your cpu then I think that you'll see a much better score. What were the fps in wow and what are they now?
fps were around 60ish and now i have not done any instances since installed but in dalaran major city i am hitting 20-35ish while before 40-50ish
hey topper can i get any suggestion on how to push my cpu a bit more i got a thermaltek heat sink for the cpu and my cpu )cosmos s has all 120mm fans in there 6 in total
also i was thinking of reformatin my computer just in case i didnt delete all the older nvidia drivers properly i just went into control panel add/delete and unistalled the nvidia drivers i dont know if that could be causing an issue
No need to do that. uninstall your drivers reboot into safe mode Run a driver cleaner and remove both ATI and Nvidia drivers reboot and reinstall the drivers.
I didn't read what motherboard you have so don't go hog wild and remove all nvidia drivers. Select ONLY the video based one/ones and remove those. You may end up doing harm to your board keeping other things from running right if you remove them all.
And I ran a cleaner just before I removed my ATI card too.
So let me rephrase my last statement.
uninstall your drivers reboot into safe mode Run Driver Sweeper analyze both ATI Display and Nvidia Display, Once complete click on Clean, reboot and reinstall the drivers.
thanks for all the help i am going to try the that dirver cleaner when i get home
i am using asus p5q-e mobo
i just installed the card didnt change any settings i believe aa is set to what ever the game tells it to be and i dont think there are aa settings in wow but i am not sure
All the points previously made are very good and correct about the installation and using driver cleaner. How long has it been since you did a clean install of the OS? If it has been quite a while and you have installed and uninstalled a bunch of stuff? If you have the time and all the newest and correct drivers, go for the clean install.
Search around here on the forums and google over clocking there are many good posts about it. Basically you are going to increase the FSB freq. Please do the reading first before you start changing system settings. Too high voltage is where the noobs tend to hurt their systems.
I think you made a good choice with your CPU by the way. You have a stock freq of 2.8ghz. The fbs is 1333/333 at stock settings. Somewhere in you bios you can change the 333 setting, to say 350, 375 395 these freqs x the cpu clock multiplier = system speed. Some cpus have an unlocked multi. Yours does not. You have a 8.5 multi 8.5x333=2.83ghz. This is where the hobbyist/enthusiasts fiddle with parts and system settings to achieve the best/highest settings for the best system speed. Again go cautiously and learn all you can before you decide to put the spurs to your expensive system.

Just a poke to the masses out there (just to be mean)
Firstly- Don't by a cheapo motherboard.
Secondly-If you do you can't expect it to function as if it were highend. Some will give a satisfactory OC most will just run at or near the default settings.
I don't ever think I have heard someone say " Darn it my Motherboard is just toooo darn good and stable, the components are just toooo high quailty and the ease of changing settings is just toooo easy and functionaly and oh yeah it stays cool and trouble free all the time, darn it, darn it"

Make sure you are not running the game in windowed mode. The 4870 X2 can only run one of the two graphics chips in windowed mode and it can't even run the one at full power I believe. It's annoying but there's no way aound it. The windowed mode one chip rule applies to all games, but WoW is definiately the most popular to play windowed (to make the constant alt-tabbing faster).
